Back to School

It has been quite a while since I last wrote on here. It must be an age thing as the older I get the quicker the time seems to fly by.
It is that time of the year once again when thousands of teachers round the country are buried in their computers, planning and preparing for the start of term. Alarm clocks will be set nice and early for many the restless night will begin.
Butterflies will begin to appear in the children’s tummies – funnily enough the same happens to me and has done every year since I started school as a child through to now as a headteacher. A air of uncertainty, the unknown mixed with the excitement of a new school year, fresh new faces mixed with the old but refreshed ones.
I get so fired up before the start of a new school year. I look forward to the new experiences that lay in wait for the youngsters. The enthusiasm and energy, which my family find truly irritating, builds up ready to be let loose on those around me tomorrow.
Pushed to the back of my mind is the rubbish surrounding inspection and ofsted but instead a renewed vision and sense of purpose focused on the children. I feel truly privileged to have the best job in the world!

  1. Yes, after 30 years the start of a new year still excites me. Staples was heaving this afternoon and I reckon I could spot my fellow teachers.
