Pep talk

It’s been a funny old day. After the disappointment of yesterday’s lack of recruiting I picked myself up, dusted myself off and faced the new challenges of the new day.
Atmosphere in work has been very up and down over the year and I decided today to face the negativity head on. There have been weeks when all I have heard are moans and groans and how dreadful it is in the job. Nationally the morale of teachers is at a low and this has added to the general depression that has slowly been setting into my staff.
I took the opportunity today to remind them of how far we have come as a school and the huge number of positives that have occurred over the year. It is so easy to get bogged down in negative and it is like a big black cloud that just gets bigger and bigger. Yes there are days when we feel like packs it all in and asking ourselves why on earth we are putting ourselves through the stress, but a small change of mindset and a look at the positive really helps to see what a fantastic privilege it is to work with young people. Confronting the negativity felt like the cloud suddenly vanished and the room was filled with fresh invigorating air.
Proof of how wonderful it is to do this job was very evident this evening. This was the third evening I have spent at work this week but tonight was so worth it. A group of KS2 children who have been attending our after school Musical theatre group were showcasing their efforts. It brought tears of joy to my eyes. I was so proud of each and every one of them. Such amazing youngsters! So timely – a much needed boost. That is why we do the job we do!!!
